Grass-fed Beef Shares

Mockingbird Bell Farm is committed to producing natural meat that nourishes our bodies and benefits our health. We are working to avoid the problems of the meat from factory farming and modern industrial food processing. Our beef, ducks and geese grow up in a natural way. We do not feed them with any GMO feed, and our farm does not use any pesticides and herbicides.

Our meat Share is similar to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) agreement to get vegetables.   But instead of getting vegetables, you get meat.

Weekend Market

We raise Angus and Hereford beef. They are fed and finished with grass. Compared with factory beef and grain-finished beef, grass-fed and finished beef is more healthy and nutritious.

When you join a beef share, you are buying a fraction of a whole beef, either 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or a whole.  The Mockingbird Bell Farm pricing is based on the finished packaged weight, just as in the grocery store.

Each carcass is a different size and your delivery will be different too. The following table shows typical packaged weight delivered to you.  You will find more detail about the number of steaks, roasts, amount of ground beef and stew meat to be expected in the detail on the order page.

   Beef Share Size      Approx Weight

         1/8                       40   -   70 lbs

         1/4                       80   - 140 lbs

         1/2                      160  -  270 lbs

       Whole                   320  -  540 lbs

The Realities of Meat  Shares

You are participating in the production of the meat and owning part of a beef, or a flock of ducks or geese. There are some differences from picking a package from the meat cooler at the grocery store.

It takes time.

The time from birth to slaughter for a beef is 15 to 18 months.

It takes about 16~18 weeks from the time the goslings are ordered until slaughter.

For ducks it takes 7~8 weeks.

There can be delays.

Production can be delayed by various events, such as predators or injury.

The supply is limited.

Small scale agriculture is just that, small scale.  The supply of each item is limited.  You need to plan ahead and get your order in early.

It takes commitment.

We made a significant investment in infrastructure, tools and livestock to be able to provide you with the highest quality food.  It helps the production process run smoother when you plan your purchases a few  months to a year in advance.

Price and Quality

Our price is not competing with grocery stores. We are producing natural meat which is the way God made it. They are grass-fed, freee-range, non-GMO, no hormone and antibiotics, and no pesticides. They are delicious, nourish bodies, and improve health.

Pickup and Delivery

The meat is picked up by the customer at Mockingbird Bell Farm.  Delivery in some parts of New York can be arranged for an additional charge.
