Mockingbird Bell Farm products are naturally produced. No chemical fertilzers, pesticides or herbicides are used on fruit or vegatables, or on the feed used for meat production. Animals grown for meat are not treated with growth promoting or other unnecessary medications.
Formal organic certification by New York State or Federal agencies does not necessarily control all the relevant factors and in some cases adds irrelevant requirements that add unnecessary cost. For example, meat may be "organic" certified, but still be from confined animals.
Rather than depending upon a bureacratic process to provide assurance of the quality of your food, it is better to simply know your supplier. So while "organic" certification may offer some limited assurance of quality, it really is not sufficient and while Mickingbird Bell Farm is in compliance with most of the requirements for organic certification, we have not registred.
