WALTHAM BUTTERNUT WINTER SQUASH

Waltham butternur winter sqush (cucurbita moschata), open pollination, annual. 105 days. Prized for its rich, dry, yellow-orange flesh and distinctive nutty flavor. The smooth, light-tan fruit weigh 3 -- 6 pounds and are exceptional keepers. Appropriate for Zone 5 and 6.

DIRECT SEEDING: Sow 2 seeds at 24 -- 36'' spacing. Thin to 1 plant per spacing interval after seedlings are established.

TRANSPLANTING: Sow 2-3 seeds per 2" container about 3 weeks prior to transplanting. Thin to 1 plant/container. Harden plants 4–7 days prior to transplanting. Transplant out after danger of frost has passed.
