To be simple, tallow is beef or sheep fat that has been cooked down and removed impurities (called render).
Rendered pig fat is called lard.
Rendered butter is called ghee.
Rendered chicken fat is called schmaltz.
As we mentioned before, tallow is a traditional fat and has been used for hundreds of years. Especially 100% grass-fed beef contains more nutrients for our bodies. Rendering tallow is easy. If you buy locally sourced grass-fed beef, it only costs ¼ or 1/3 of the same quality of store-bought tallow. The kitchen tools used for rendering tallow are simple, including deep sauce-pan, kitchen knife, cutting board, sieve, and cheesecloth.
